The Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is offering three fully funded PhD scholarships in applied AI/machine learning/computational intelligence, operational research, and mobile app development for Net Zero transportation and freeports. These unique scholarships will allow students to develop innovative solutions that integrate AI-powered mobile apps with logistics and transportation systems.

A. Introduction

The LJMU's Freeport and Net Zero Transport Thematic Doctoral Pathways (FTDP) program is seeking talented students who can apply their skills in AI, operational research, engineering, and science to tackle the challenge of decarbonizing transport and logistics. This call is for the second cohort, which will focus on developing AI-powered mobile apps that optimize transportation systems.

B. How to Apply

If you're interested in applying, please carefully review the descriptions for each project and person specifications on the LJMU website: [insert link]. You'll also find examples of current and past projects on air quality and green transportation at [insert link]. To apply, email Prof. Trung Thanh Nguyen with the subject "FTDP PhD + Project number" (for projects 1-3 below) and include your CV, transcript, and any additional supporting materials.

The three topics for the second cohort are:

  1. Optimizing freight rail networks using AI-powered mobile apps.
  2. Developing AI-driven solutions for planning alternative energy in shipping.
  3. Benchmarking freeport/transport optimisation/decarbonisation using AI-powered mobile apps.
