As of 17 May 2026, CIMB customers will no longer receive transaction notifications via SMS. The bank is making a significant shift towards app push notifications as the primary means of communicating with users. This change follows the full implementation of SecureTAC last month, marking a major milestone in the financial institution's digital transformation.

The Move Away from SMS

CIMB is reducing its reliance on older notification services, particularly given the rise in fraudulent SMS messages posing as banks to deceive customers. With this transition, users will no longer receive SMS alerts for transactions occurring on CIMB Clicks, FPX websites, or the CIMB OCTO application.

The Future of Notification: App Push Notifications

Going forward, all CIMB-related transaction notices will be sent as push notifications via the bank's OCTO application. To stay informed about your transactions in real-time, users must enable this feature within the app.

To do so, open the OCTO app, select "More," then "Settings," and finally "Manage Push Notification." Don't forget to allow permission for the bank app to provide notifications on your Android device through Settings > Notifications > App Notifications. For iOS devices, navigate to Settings > Notifications, locate CIMB OCTO from the Notification Style list at the bottom of the page, and adjust settings as needed.
