UGREEN NAS: Ersteinrichtung und Grundkonfiguration per mobiler App - Tutorial

Are you looking for a seamless way to set up your UGREEN NAS using only your mobile device? Look no further! In this tutorial, we'll walk you through the process of configuring your UGREEN NAS using its mobile app, without the need for a PC or browser. We've tested it on an iPad, but the same steps apply to smartphones as well.

Objective

By the end of this tutorial, you'll have successfully set up your UGREEN NAS:

  • Correctly connected to your network
  • Accessible and manageable through the app
  • Equipped with a secure admin login
  • With a configured storage pool and volume

Prerequisites

To get started, make sure you have:

  • A UGREEN NAS device
  • Installed hard drives or SSDs
  • Power and LAN connection
  • A router (or switch) in your home network
  • A tablet or smartphone with the UGREEN NAS app installed
  • Your mobile device is connected to the same network as your NAS

Getting Started

After launching the UGREEN NAS app, you'll be prompted to log in. For new devices, select "Register a new device" (bottom of the screen). The app will automatically search for available UGREEN NAS systems on your local network.

Note for advanced users with different VLANs (Network Segmentation)

The automatic device search relies on local network mechanisms and works reliably only within the same network segment. If you're using different VLANs or logical networks, the app won't be able to detect the NAS. In this case, you can manually access the NAS by its IP address:

  • Find the IP address in your router or DHCP server
  • Open a browser on your mobile device and enter the IP address
  • From here, you can continue with the setup process, following our "Ersteinrichtung & Grundkonfiguration" tutorial

Naming Your NAS

Next, give your NAS a name. This will help identify it in the app and web interface, as well as serve as the system hostname in your local network.

Note: The device name is also used as the network hostname and should be chosen thoughtfully and uniquely.

Setting Up Admin Account

In the next step, create an admin account. This account will have full control over your NAS:

  • Set a username
  • Enter and confirm a password

The app will automatically check the password strength and provide guidance on minimum requirements.

Important: This account has full system rights and is not intended for daily use.

Optional Email Linking & Remote Access

The assistant will offer to link an email address with your NAS, enabling remote access and notifications. This step is optional and can be skipped. Local operation of the NAS remains possible without this feature.

System Updates and Initialization

Before completing the setup process, you can specify how system updates should be handled:

  • Install only important updates automatically (recommended)
  • Install all updates automatically
  • Receive notifications for available updates

Once you start the initialization process, UGOS Pro will begin configuring. This may take a few minutes and typically involves a NAS restart.

Final Thoughts

With these steps complete, your UGREEN NAS is now set up and ready to use. Make sure to explore its features and capabilities in our subsequent tutorials!
