With a bold goal to revolutionize grocery delivery, TONS partnered with HeyInnovations to develop an iOS app and create an Android version from scratch.

The Challenge

When TONS approached us in 2018, they were looking for a digital solution to stand out from competitors, eliminate human errors, and provide high-order customization. Their business goal was to ease shopping for both users and the company, while ensuring seamless order tracking and refund processes. The key challenge was that Kuwaiti citizens couldn't link their credit cards to their accounts, making refunds impossible.

The Solution

Our team at HeyInnovations designed an innovative app that supported English and Arabic languages, complying with local acquiring regulations. The app allowed users to browse, order, and track groceries from different stores, as well as receive refunds and communicate with in-store shoppers. Key features included:

  • In-app order control and completion
  • HR system for TONS shoppers
  • Upcoming delivery time indicator on the home screen
  • Vegan, organic, vegetarian, keto, lactose-free, sugar-free food options
  • Special indicator showing when users can get a free delivery

User Experience

To enhance user experience, we optimized the card to display product information and added a saving function for repeat customers. When an item is out of stock, users can tap the Replacement options button and choose a similar item as a replacement. The app also features an in-app barcode scanner for quick re-ordering of favorite foods.

Location-Based Services

The app automatically detects the user's location or allows them to enter their PACI number (ID for all Kuwaiti residents) to retrieve their address. Previous addresses are saved for easy changes, and push notifications inform users about order status updates.

Feedback Mechanism

After delivery, users can track their orders on a map, view changes made by the shopper, and rate the quality and availability of goods as well as replacement accuracy.

Innovative Payment Solution

To address the refund challenge, we created TONS Credits – an in-app currency that can be used to pay for orders and refunds. If an item is out of stock, TONS returns the price difference in Credits, which users can spend on their next order.

Shopper Experience

The app allows shoppers to mark the beginning and end of their shifts, view performance statistics, request time off, and manage orders from different stores.
