When it comes to food delivery, convenience often comes at a cost. But just how much can you expect to pay for that convenience? In this article, we'll dive into the world of fitness app development and explore the costs associated with popular food delivery platforms.
The High Cost of Convenience
According to multiple sources, one-third of Americans get food delivered twice a week. While this may be a convenient option for many, it's essential to consider the added costs that come with ordering in. From markups to fees, taxes, and tips, the total cost of delivery can quickly add up.
The Cost of Delivery Apps
Our team at FinanceBuzz collected data from popular food delivery platforms, including Uber Eats, GrubHub, DoorDash, and PostMates. We found that each platform has its own unique markups, fees, and taxes that can significantly increase the cost of your meal. For instance, PostMates has a markup of 92%, followed closely by DoorDash at 83% and GrubHub at 80%. Uber Eats, on the other hand, has the lowest markup at 69%.
Popular Chains: The High Cost of Convenience
When it comes to popular restaurant chains like Chick-fil-A and Starbucks, the cost of delivery can be particularly steep. For example, a basic $9.85 Chick-fil-A order can increase in cost by anywhere from 71% on Uber Eats up to 134% on GrubHub. And don't forget to add in tips for your delivery driver!
The Bottom Line: How Much Can You Save?
So just how much can you save by ordering pickup instead of delivery? According to our research, the average markup for food delivery is around 80%. This means that customers pay an additional 20% above the menu price. By ordering pickup, customers can avoid these added costs and save up to 77%.
Comparing Food Delivery App Fees
To get a better sense of the costs associated with each app, we collected data from 10 food orders and calculated the average amount charged by each platform for food, fees, taxes, and tips. We found that Uber Eats had the lowest all-in total cost, with an average markup of 69%. PostMates, on the other hand, had the highest markup at 92%.
The Bonus: How to Earn Rewards
In addition to saving money by ordering pickup, customers can also earn rewards and cashback on their favorite foods. By using the right credit cards or food delivery apps, customers can earn up to 5X points or cashback on qualifying purchases.
