What's driving innovation in app startup ideas? It's all about building strong connections and fostering a sense of belonging within your team. At Google Workspace, we're committed to providing the tools you need to thrive in today's hybrid work landscape.

What's Changing

As we near the end of our transition period, we're excited to announce that Currents will no longer be available starting July 5, 2023. But don't worry, we're not saying goodbye to Currents without a fight! Workspace administrators can export their data using Takeout before August 8, 2023. After that, Currents data will no longer be accessible for download.

New Community Features in Google Chat

While we bid farewell to Currents, we're doubling down on new features for Google Chat. Our goal is to provide the perfect space for teams to connect and collaborate like never before. Over the past year, we've delivered a range of features designed to support community engagement at scale. And that's not all - we have even more exciting updates in store!

Announcements in Google Chat

This month, we're introducing new ways for organizations to share information across the enterprise with announcements in Google Chat. This feature gives administrators control over who can post in a space while allowing all members to read and react. This ensures that important updates stay visible and relevant.

Later this year, we plan to simplify membership management by integrating Google Groups with spaces in Chat, enable post-level metrics for announcements, and provide tools for Workspace administrators to manage spaces across their domain.

Expressive Conversations

We've already rolled out some amazing features to make conversations more expressive and engaging. For example, our in-line threading feature lets you explore a specific topic without overwhelming the main conversation. We've also added custom emojis so you can add a touch of personality to your messages.

Discover and Join Communities

We're making it easier for individuals to discover and join communities that share their interests. By searching in Gmail, users can browse a directory of available spaces covering topics like gardening, pets, career development, fitness, cultural identity, and more. Plus, you can invite others to join via link.

Integrations with Third-Party Apps

Our partner community is working tirelessly to integrate Google Chat with essential third-party apps like Jira, GitHub, Asana, PagerDuty, Zendesk, and Salesforce. Many organizations have built custom workflow apps using low-code and no-code tools, and we anticipate even more exciting integrations in the future.

Why It Matters

In today's rapidly changing work landscape, building authentic personal connections and a strong sense of belonging is crucial for teams to thrive. Google Chat is the perfect platform for Workspace customers seeking to build a community and culture for hybrid teams. And with our continued investment in new features, we're committed to making Google Chat the best option for your app startup ideas.
