As I embark on my next mobile app project, I'm thrilled to introduce "Made In Canada?" - an innovative solution that leverages artificial intelligence and existing APIs to empower users. Inspired by the potential impact of tariffs on Canada, this small yet impactful project combines cutting-edge technologies like Flutter to create a natively compiled app for both Android and iOS.
Discovering AI in Mobile Apps
Flutter's capabilities enable me to develop apps that are both powerful and free. This project allowed me to explore the potential of combining multiple technologies to create something new. The app's logic is built on three main components: mobile_scanner for scanning barcodes and retrieving their universal product code, UPCItemDB API for accessing a database of over 646 million unique products, and ChatGPT's API for processing product details and determining whether they are Canadian or not.
The Power of AI in Mobile Apps
With these powerful technologies combined, the result is a simple yet impactful tool that helps users make informed purchasing decisions. By scanning a product's barcode, users can quickly determine if it belongs to a Canadian brand. If not, the app suggests Canadian-made or international alternatives. This project has allowed me to see firsthand how AI in mobile apps can be used to create innovative solutions.
The Future of AI in Mobile Apps
Coming soon to an app store near you! With "Made In Canada?" users will have access to a tool that supports local brands and promotes informed purchasing decisions.
